South has a fairly poor hand for a 2C overcall, balanced, lots of quacks, but this sequence has strong pre-empt value and look at the mayhem it can cause.
West should probably make a try for 3 NT by bidding 3S.
On the same bidding at another table the lead was the SK. This looks like a much safer lead. EW have shown an ~ combined 23hcp, so pard has at best ~4hcp. The CQ is thus highly likely to be held by oppo.
Some say the auctions (1D) 2C and (1C) 2D are the best overcalls as they take up a lot of room and both majors are in play so negative doubles are less effective.
ReplyDeleteWith 12 hcp, especially three aces I would bid game opposite a partner who opened unless something really bad happened in the auction. Partner's 3D bid is not that really bad thing when you have Ax.
