A perfect fitting hand. East can nearly visualise his pard's shape and think that with singleton opposite singleton then hand might work well with minimumish hcp.
South's 1S is poor, with poor side suits and poor trump suit, and Vul. North should compete in spades with good trumps and side Ace.
At one table west bid 2H over 1S which was raised to game. 2C seems better.
At another table, South 1S was raised to 2S and South competed with 4S over 4H. This was undoubled which was lucky given the Vul.
