  1. South's hand is awkward for many systems, including ACOL. If u open 1H and pard bids 2C u then bid 2D, and pard thinks u have 5 hearts. Some players prefer to open 1D and sticlaly rebid 2D over 2C. The rationale being that the bidding is unlikely to stop there and u are more likely to reach the correct game or partscore contrcat.
    East should do more than bid 3C. He has an opening hand values opposite a 2 level overcall.
    Depending on what cues of oppo suit meant here he could try 2H.

  2. 1H is the book bid but I would recommend avoiding it on this shape if you can.

    When the bidding goes 1H 2C; 2D 4H you will have no idea whether you are in the right contract until you see the dummy and maybe you still won't know. These 4=4=4=1 hands are really ugly to bid!!!
