Standard ACOL is 1 NT with North. East has difficult bid over 1C however. X is not unreasonable at all, despite the ugly shape. However, holding a 20 count and with opener holding say a 12 count, pard is likely to have on a good day about 4 points, so what he turned up with should not have disappointed. Very strong hands vs very weak hands do not play to the combined HCP strength of the hands, ie u usually need more than the 25hcp for NT. Also the singleton KS is a negative feature. Possibly give up on game and just compete with 1 NT?
1C Dbl Pass 1S; Pass 1NT All pass is the standard auction after a 1C opening.
ReplyDeleteThe 1NT rebid by the doubler shows a hand too strong to have overcalled 1NT which means about 19-21 hcp.
If north-south play Acol then a 1NT opening is more normal

2S is a weak takeout
The second double by east is for takeout. It suggests extra values. West bids their only other four-card suit.
