north has a nice direct 2D overcall. If it doesn't win the auction it has lead directing appeal. Best to bid as naturally as possible. The X of 1S might encourage pard to think there is hearts sitting opposite.
In this case however, South with five hearts and excellent shape doesn't show his hearts.
North's X then new suit shows a much stronger than what was held.
Pass 1S 2D Pass; 2H ... looks like a fairly standard start to the auction. Thereafter it might get awkward for north south. Although they may survive since 5C and 5D are makeable by fairly straight forward lines of play.
