  2. Hi, is the 4club bid suggested above a cue-bid? I was of the understanding that if so it would show first round control in clubs and North does not have this?

  3. Yes it is a cue-bid. There are broadly two common ways to cue-bid.

    1. First round controls before second - aces and voids before kings and singletons

    2. First or second round controls - where aces, kings, singletons and voids are cued indiscriminantly

  4. Yes. Where partner has shown shortage then the cue in that suit (in the case above, 4H) would be a first round control, as there is no point showing kings opposite singletons.
