  1. North should probably pass 1NT. If it gets passed round to South then can X again, still TOD. The QJ ♦ are hopeless on offence and North should downgrade these. North has made a free bid so South is justified in bidding game.

  2. West should have replied 1S perhaps instead of 1 NT?
    Regarding N2h bid ... Even though the QJ of D are valueless partner has indicated a shortage in this suit ..... Does this still not warrant a minimal 2H response?

    1. Yes 1S is better.

      North's hand is marginal for 2H. The doubler will not always have four hearts so the bad suit and the defensive dQJ suggest passing. Otherwise though I think it is fair to stretch to bid with most hands with 6-9 points and a four-card major.
