  1. South is pushing the boundaries with 4 S.
    It is unclear what West would do if South had passed. Some partnerships play long suit or
    short suit game trys. Here eg a short suit try would work well with 3 D. West now knows all
    his values are working and can bid game.
    At the other table 1 NT seems odd.
