Yes. Where partner has shown shortage then the cue in that suit (in the case above, 4H) would be a first round control, as there is no point showing kings opposite singletons.
If 3♠ by South was a limit raise then it is too strong. Excellent hand if playing splinters, where the bidding could go:

ReplyDeleteYes it is a cue-bid. There are broadly two common ways to cue-bid.
ReplyDelete1. First round controls before second - aces and voids before kings and singletons
2. First or second round controls - where aces, kings, singletons and voids are cued indiscriminantly
